The Brick Industry Association has developed an online training program that will provide important education to manufacturer and distributor members. The first course will focus on Green Building Design and Sustainability, and it will consist of five classes to educate members' staff.
The first three classes are now available. The remaining two classes will be available by September 8.
Course DescriptionThroughout the five classes of this course, several different topics will be covered including:
- Class 1: What is Sustainable or Green Building Design?
- Class 2: Non-Residential Green Building Rating Systems
- Class 3: Residential Green Building Rating Systems
- Class 4: Brick Manufacturing - Sustainable or Green Aspects
- Class 5: Competitive Materials vs. Brick - Green Claims and Facts
Class 1 must be taken first, but the remaining classes can be taken in any order. This flexibility allows users to focus in on their particular areas of interest.
Completion Time
Each class is approximately 1 hour. The online format gives users the flexibility to pause, stop, and repeat portions of the classes. In all, those who take all five classes should anticipate approximately 6-8 hours to complete the course; it is the equivalent of a full day of training.
Fees & Payment
The cost to take the Green Building Design and Sustainability course - which covers all 5 classes - is $250. This fee must be paid online via credit card prior to beginning Class 1. Course fees are charged on a "per access" basis. So whether one person accesses the online training program individually in his or her office or whether an entire sales force is gathered at once in a conference room to learn in a group setting, the cost will be $250.
Group Learning Sessions
Should companies desire that their employees learn in a group setting, BIA will provide the group facilitator designated by the company with a guide to assist them in leading the group through the course. The guide will include an advanced copy of the test questions so that each member will still be able to separately take the accompanying tests.
"Green Brick Specialist" Designation
Those who successfully complete all the classes and pass the tests will receive the "Green Brick Specialist" designation, giving you instant credibility when speaking with builders and architects. You will also be qualified to present BIA's Brick Revisited presentation on sustainability for AIA/CES continuing education credit to architects.
Access Time
Once payment is made, the user will have access to the content of each class. Each class can be viewed over several sittings and will return to the place the user stopped before. Once the test for a particular class has been started, the user will have 5 days to complete it while viewing class' content. Again, this flexibility takes into account the busy schedules and extensive travel of salespeople and allows for ample time to complete all five classes.
